The Elder Wand

The Elder Wand was a major player throughout the book. We find out about it's powers and that Dumbledore's been in possession of it for quite some time. Once it's powers and location were discovered it seemed like everyone wanted a piece of it, as it seemed to be the answer to who would end up defeating who (Harry vs. Voldemort).
In the end, Voldemort does gain possession of the wand and believes that he has gained its powers as well, but what we discover is that Harry is its rightful owner since he defeated Malfoy in a duel, who was it's previous owner.
It's this key fact that allows Harry to kill Voldemort (with the aid of Neville killing Nagini) because the wand backfired and killed Voldemort since Harry was its rightful owner.
Harry seems to have the same feelings about the wand as Dumbledore had. He ends up going back to using his own wand, and puts the wand back in Dumbledore's tomb so that when he dies all the power of the wand will die with him. I think he believes that the wand is more trouble than it's worth, and it's better to save others from it's evil power than to use it for his own gain.
