The elder wand has been in front of us for the whole series. Dumbledore
has been using it the entire time harry has been at school. This seems to bring
about the possibility to why Dumbledore is such a powerful wizard, other than
his great intelligence. It is important because it is said to be the most
powerful wand in existence. The wand itself though is very fickle it seems. At
the end of the series Harry has the Elder Wand. The process of how he got it is
a little confusing, but he came by it because he disarmed Draco while they were
fighting in the Malfoy manor. Draco was the one who the wands allegiance tied
itself to after He disarmed Dumbledore at the top of the astronomy tower at the
end of the Half-blood Prince. This line of how the wand changes hands, suggests
that it is always looking to change its allegiance. At the end of the book
Harry does not want the wand. He only wants his phoenix feather wand back. So
he uses the Elder wand to repair his phoenix feather and holly wand. Then he
replaces the wand in the tomb with Dumbledore. He does this because if he dies
a natural death the wand will no longer work because it’s owner died but not by
the hand of anyone else. I think this suggests quite a bit about Harry’s
character, with the fact that he does not want what is consider the most
powerful wand ever created.
