Blog Post #3

I was very satisfied with the how the end of the Harry Potter series came to a close.  Especially when reading through the series for a second time there were many things that were able to sink in better and I was able to read into things more.  I grew up reading the Harry Potter series, and by the release of the last few books, I was so excited that I read to read through them as fast as I could, I couldn’t wait to see how the series would finally end.  I think that everything was neatly tied up, which is something that I always like in a series, I hate open-ended endings or too many unanswered questions and I was happily surprised when this series wasn’t like that.  The second time through I feel like I had much stronger emotions almost, since I let things sink in and I was paying attention to small details.  My confusion over Dumbledore and realization of Snape’s true loyalties were overpowering emotions and all leading into the epilogue that I was the most excited for, setting in mind what came of my favorite characters.

My emotions throughout the series changed drastically about both Dumbledore and Snape.  I started off the series having such strong feelings of dislike towards Snape, he was one of my least favorite characters, and Dumbledore being one of my favorites.  However as the series evolved, my feelings almost completely switched between the characters.  Learning everything that Dumbledore was keeping hidden, it made me think twice about him, and I think my feelings changed a lot.  I felt betrayed, much like Harry’s feelings, I didn’t like that he was so secretive and always seemed to have a hidden agenda, it made me think less of him and I was left feeling that he wasn’t the great man that was portrayed throughout the beginning of the series.  Snape on the other hand, I came to love by the end of the series.  I always had some hope by the end of book 6 that he was good and I was so relieved and excited when his loyalties were finally revealed.  Snape really did have good intentions and the complexities of his character were so moving.  These too characters really surprised me by how much my emotions towards them could change throughout the last two books.

Finally, for the epilogue, this was honestly one of my favorite parts of the final book.  I love knowing what becomes of all of my favorite characters and although it was no surprise that Harry and Ginny, or Ron and Hermione end up together, I loved that their future was written into the story, giving a sense that they were all okay.  I loved the 7th and final book in the Harry Potter series, he final 2 books were my favorites out of all of them and I had such happy and sad emotions when it all came to a close.  As much as I loved it I miss the feeling of a new book being released and the excitement to see what happened next to these beloved characters.
