Dumbledore and Snape's true intentions Blog #3
I loved the ending of the series, more specifically finding out the truth about Dumbledore and Snape. This is the first time I've read the entire series. The first time I read it I was in fourth grade and I only had read until the fourth book. At this point I had a deep rooted hatred for Snape. I had always thought he was on Voldemort's side and in the end his actions would prove it. When Snape killed Dumbledore I thought I knew I was right. Throughout the last book I never even considered the possibility that Dumbledore and Snape had arranged the events that played out. When Snape took over Hogwarts I thought that he had won, but when I discovered that those were Dumbledore's intentions all along I was dumb-founded and thrilled at the same time. My favorite part about the ending was when Harry went into the pensive to see Snape's memories. Figuring out that Snape had been protecting Harry and looking out for his best intrest because of his undying love for his mother my previous feelings for Snape melted away. I suddenly felt sorry for him and understood him so much better. My view of Snape's life changed completely. Snape had grown up poor, misunderstood and with no friends except for Lily, Harry's mother. Through his memories I could feel his passion and love for her but all along she seemed to have missed it or chosen to let it go unnoticed. Although Lily had obviously moved on from their friendship and life Snape did everything that he could so that her death was not in vain. Snape was not the selfish power seeker that he appeared to be, he was dedicating his life to the woman he loved and ensuring that the child his true love died for was safe and lived a full life. Snape became my most hated character to one of my most loved. Also in my most loved is Dumbledore. His actions were not always the most honorable or forthcoming of all information but he always wanted Harry to succeed and to beat out Voldemort and was prepared to do whatever he felt necessary for him to do so, even if that meant not telling Harry the full story. When we seem Harry meet Dumbledore in Kings Cross and find out that Harry had indeed lived another one of Voldemort's attacks and he explains and apologizes for his actions it was the scene that made Dumbledore one of my favorite characters because you don't see him for the wise and powerful Dumbledore, you see him as a human who recognizes his mistakes. Overall the Harry Potter series in my opinion is an ultimate epic of Harry growing to conquer Voldemort.
